The Huddle’s ‘Game Day’ Experience

An immersive, AFL themed STEM experience for Grade 5 and 6 students, and the project where Alex wrote the narrative that holds the entire thing together. Working almost like a Disney Imagineer, Alex authored the story that frames and shapes the experience, turning what could have been a standard educational course into a fantasy students actually get to live. Across four "quarters," kids step inside the world of an AFL game, working in teams through STEM challenges that build critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and resilience.

Built by The Huddle, the community arm of the North Melbourne Football Club, and hosted at the club's Arden Street headquarters, Game Day is a free, Australian first program made possible by a $7.3 million investment from the Victorian State Government. A team from Spatial, MKTG, and Beautiful Minds designed and produced it across screenplay, audio, visuals, special effects, and a pedagogical framework aligned to the Victorian Curriculum. In its first full year it was expected to reach up to 4,500 students from 100 schools in lower socioeconomic areas across Victoria, and it won the 2023 Asia Pacific Audio Visual Industry Award for Best Application of AV in Education.
